Organic Coarse Mediterranean Salt

Organic Coarse Mediterranean Salt from Croatia is a natural sea salt with coarse crystals and a pure Mediterranean character. It comes from the salt pans of the Nin area, on the Adriatic coast, where salt production is part of a long local tradition. The natural evaporation of seawater with the help of the sun and wind creates crystals suitable for both everyday cooking and use in a grinder.

The salt we use

We use coarse sea salt from Croatia, with irregular crystals and a natural appearance. Its larger grain size sets it apart from ordinary fine table salt. The grains dissolve gradually during cooking and can also be ground just before serving. It is a practical choice for those who prefer coarse salt in the kitchen and want to control the grain size with their grinder.

Origin and identity

The area of Nin, Croatia is known for its traditional sea salt production. The local salt pans are located in a coastal Adriatic setting, and the production process relies on the natural evaporation of seawater. The sun and wind gradually increase the brine’s concentration until crystals form. The area’s connection to salt production is an important part of local tradition and gives the product a distinct geographical identity.

Aroma, color and taste

The crystals have a white to slightly off-white hue and an irregular shape. The aromatic profile is subtle and marine, while the taste is characterized by clean salinity. Since this is coarse salt, the intensity also depends on how it is used: when the grains dissolve in liquids or food, the saltiness is distributed evenly, while grinding them at the end leaves the texture more noticeable.

How to use it

It is suitable for many everyday uses. It can be used in water for pasta, rice, pulses and vegetables, in soups and sauces, as well as when roasting meat or fish. The coarse grains are also suitable for brines and marinades, where the salt dissolves in the liquid. To use it directly on food, place it in a salt grinder and grind it at the time of serving. For a different coarse-grained option, try German Mineral Salt Granules.

Pairings

Its neutral, clean profile makes it particularly versatile. It pairs with meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, potatoes, pasta and pulses. It can be used with black pepper, oregano, thyme, rosemary, paprika or garlic. For grilled meats, it can be added before or after cooking, depending on the recipe, while it works simply with olive oil and herbs on vegetables. It is also suitable for preparations that require a larger amount of salt, such as brines or salt crusts.

Natural appearance

The product consists of coarse, irregular crystals of varying sizes. Variations in grain size are normal for this type of salt. Depending on the batch, slight differences may occur in the size of the grains or their off-white hue, without affecting the product’s use.

Storage

Store the salt in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and strong odors. After opening, keep the package tightly sealed or transfer the salt to a suitable container. If using it in a grinder, keep the grinder dry so the crystals move freely and grind properly.

Precautions

Like all salts, it is a source of sodium and should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. People following a sodium-restricted diet or who have received specific dietary instructions should follow the recommendations of their doctor or healthcare professional.
