Chipotle Peppers
Smoked dried jalapeño peppers with a deep smoky aroma and moderate heat. Chipotle is a fundamental ingredient in Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine — from adobos and tacos to modern gourmet sauces and BBQ rubs.
The spice we use
Dried and smoked jalapeño peppers in their natural form. The tree wood smoking process gives the ingredient its characteristic deep smoky aroma that differentiates chipotles from plain hot peppers.
Botanical identity
The jalapeño pepper (Capsicum annuum) is mainly cultivated in Mexico, harvested when ripe and left to fully mature on the plant before harvesting. The term "chipotle" comes from the Nahuatl word meaning smoked jalapeño. Scoville rating approximately 2,500–10,000 SHU.
