Steak Pepper Blend is a seasoning blend designed to give steaks and other grilled foods a bold peppery character. A steak blend is especially convenient when you want quick, consistent seasoning before or after cooking, without measuring each spice individually. The product label should always be consulted for the exact ingredients and allergens in this particular blend.

Why use a blend for steak?

A steak’s surface needs seasoning that can hold its own against the intense flavor of grilling and complement the taste of the meat. A peppery blend can add aroma, spicy intensity, and a more complex finish, depending on its ingredients.

Before cooking

Pat the surface of the meat thoroughly dry with paper towels. A dry surface helps it brown properly. Add the blend evenly and press it gently so it stays on the meat. The amount depends on the blend’s intensity, the thickness of the steak, and personal taste.

Pan, grill, and BBQ

It can be used in a cast-iron pan, on a grill, or on the BBQ. At very high temperatures, take care not to burn the smaller spice particles. If the blend is quite fine, some of it can be added toward the end of cooking or afterward for a more pronounced aroma.

It’s not just for beef

A steak pepper blend can also be used on burgers, pork chops, chicken, or grilled mushrooms, as long as its flavor profile suits the recipe. On vegetables such as potatoes and peppers, it adds peppery intensity without the need to combine spices separately.

Dry rub and marinade

As a dry rub, apply it directly to the surface. For a marinade, it can be mixed with a little oil and other recipe ingredients. If this particular blend already contains salt, take that into account before adding more. This is why checking the label is important.

Finishing with butter

For a pan-fried steak, a small amount of the blend can be combined with butter in the final stage, along with suitable aromatics from the recipe. This technique produces a different result from dry seasoning and allows the aromas to infuse the fat.

For a more distinctive citrusy, peppery character, you can also try Nepalese Timut Pepper.

How much to use

Start with a moderate amount, especially if you’re using the blend for the first time. It’s easier to add a little more at the end than to fix meat that’s been over-seasoned. Thin steaks usually need less seasoning per piece than thick cuts.

Storage

Ground and cracked spices are affected by light, heat, air, and moisture. Store the blend in an airtight container in a cool, dry cupboard, away from the oven. Use a dry spoon and don’t leave the package open over steam.

Note on ingredients

Since this is a blend, check the label for the exact ingredients, salt, and any allergens before use, especially if you have specific dietary restrictions.
