One of the rarest and most prized peppers in the world. Banasura pepper is grown in the Wayanad mountains of Kerala, India, at altitudes of approximately 900 meters. Its name comes from the mythical demon Banasura of Indian mythology. The microclimate and high rainfall in the region create ideal conditions for the growth of high-quality red and aromatic peppers.

The spice we use

Whole black peppercorns (Piper nigrum) from the Wayanad mountains, hand-picked at full ripeness. Unprocessed, without additives. Used whole or ground immediately before use for maximum aromatic intensity.

Botanical identity

Derived from the plant Piper nigrum, family Piperaceae. Cultivated exclusively in the Wayanad mountains of Kerala, a region known for its ancient history of spice trade. The special microclimatic zone and soil give the pepper impressive aromatic density and intensity.

Aroma, color and taste

Rich, impressively complex aroma with notes of earth, wood, light fruitiness, and freshness. Black-brown color. Intense, warm spicy taste with impressive aromatic complexity that lasts after cooking.

How it is used

Ideal as a finishing spice on roasted meats, tartare, and whole roasted fish to highlight its aroma. For sauces and gourmet flavored marinades for beef and lamb. It works exceptionally well in gin or whisky-based cocktails. If you love exceptional peppers, also check out Timut pepper from Nepal for a completely different taste experience.

Combinations

Pairs excellently with olive oil and herbs on roasted meats. With dark chocolate and caramel in sweet compositions for impressive contrast. With yogurt cheese in risotto and pastas for an impressive Italian note.

Natural appearance

Large, round black-brown peppercorns. Comparatively larger than common black pepper, with a wrinkled surface.

Storage

In a sealed container, away from light, moisture, and heat. Use whole or ground immediately before use.

Precautions

Belongs to the Piperaceae family. Allergy to black pepper is rare but exists. Consult a doctor if pregnant or taking anticoagulants.
