Pharaoh Black Salt of Cyprus
Pharaoh's Black Salt from Egypt-Cyprus is one of the most striking salts in terms of appearance and taste. Its characteristic deep black-anthracite pyramidal crystals distinguish it from any other salt on the market. It is a finishing salt with a strong flavor, unique aesthetic presentation, and an intense earthy and divine aroma.
The salt we use
We use high-quality sea salt from the salt flats of Cyprus, which is then activated in infrared kilns in the presence of gas charcoal and optimized aged wood. The crystals retain their natural pyramidal shape, unrefined, without chemical processing or additives.
Historical identity
This particular pyramidal style is known as "pharaoh's salt" due to its connection with the Egyptian origin of salt. The black color comes from activation with gas charcoal and wood, a process that gives the salt its intense smoky and earthy aroma. In ancient times, black salt was used by the Egyptians as a ritual and sacred material for thousands of years.
Aroma, color, and taste
Deep black-anthracite color with characteristic reflections in the light. The aroma is intense and complex: smoky, slightly earthy, with subtle woody notes. The taste is intense, full-bodied, with strong saltiness and a slight smoky aftertaste from the activation. As a finishing salt, it has a deeper and more impressive taste than classic sea salts.
How to use it
Exclusively as a finishing salt — added at the last moment before serving. Excellent on meat steaks, fish, and sesame brittle. It pairs wonderfully with fried eggs and avocado. See also our Fleur de Sel de Guérande for another exquisite finishing salt with a different character.
Pairings
With beef and tuna steaks for dramatic presentation. With baked fish for a contrast of colors and flavors. With avocado and eggs for an impressive visual presentation. With sesame and tahini for Mediterranean compositions. With soft cheeses and sweet flavors for interesting contrasts.
