Dried celery is one of the most prized spices in Mediterranean and Eastern cuisine. Dried celery leaves and stems in light pieces — ready to be added directly to soups, broths, stews, and sauces. It retains the strong aroma and flavor of fresh celery in a concentrated form, adding instant flavor to dishes without the preparation of fresh celery.

The material we use

We use high-quality dried celery leaves and stems, processed into light pieces of about 1-3 mm, raw, without additives or colorings. The color is yellowish-green to brownish, indicative of natural drying.

Botanical identity

Celery (Apium graveolens, fam. Apiaceae) is a biennial or annual plant cultivated worldwide. It has been used as a herb since ancient times — by the Ancient Greeks and Romans for its aromatic properties. In ancient Greece, it was a symbol of sadness and wreaths were used in the Isthmian Games. Today it is an essential ingredient in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine.

Aroma, color and taste

Yellowish-green to brownish pieces with a soothing shiny texture. The aroma is intense, earthy and slightly sweet, with characteristic citrus notes. The taste is salty, slightly bitter with a soothing, slightly bitter texture. It enhances soups, broths and stews with a unique earthy note that cannot be easily replaced by another herb.

How it is used

Add directly to soups and broths in the first minutes of cooking for the best aromatic result. Excellent in meat and poultry stews. Used in pasta sauces and risottos for color and flavor. See also Dried Dill for another useful aromatic herb for the kitchen.
