Dried leek
Dried leek is sourced from high-quality fresh leeks, cut into thin, uniform flakes similar to familiar onion granules — but with a light, characteristic leek aroma. They retain their mild, sweet, onion-like character and are ideal for soups, stocks, sauces, and spice blends without the need for chopping and washing.
The ingredient we use
We use high-quality fresh leeks, cut into thin flakes and dried, raw, without additives or colorings. The color is light green with a soothing, glossy texture. The flakes are easily recognizable as a dried vegetable and rehydrate easily in hot liquids or stocks.
Botanical identity
Leek (Allium porrum, family Amaryllidaceae) is a biennial vegetable closely related to onion and garlic. It has been cultivated throughout Europe and the Mediterranean for thousands of years and is the national vegetable of Wales. In Greek cuisine, it is traditionally used in stocks, soups, and leek pies.
Aroma, color, and taste
Light green color with a soothing, glossy texture. The aroma is mild and sweet with soothing grassy notes — more subtle and sweet than onion, less pungent than garlic. The taste is slightly sweet with a pleasant aftertaste and rehydrates instantly in hot liquids, leaving visible pieces of leek in the dish.
How to use
Add directly to stocks and soups for instant leek flavor without the chopping. Excellent in meat and fish sauces. Add to risotto and leek pie for a mild leek flavor without the prep work. See also Onion Powder for a related dried vegetable of the same family.
Pairings
With celery, parsley, and carrot for a classic soup base. With thyme and black pepper for meat sauces. With rosemary and lemon for fish marinades. With onion and garlic for a deeper flavor in soups.
Physical appearance
Thin, slightly asymmetrical flakes of light green color with a soothing, glossy surface — immediately recognizable as a dried vegetable.
Storage
In a cool and dark place, in an airtight container. Keeps for up to 2 years.
Precautions
Contains no known allergens. Individuals with sensitivities to the Amaryllidaceae family (garlic, onion, leek) should use with caution.
