Masala Chai
Indian Masala Tea (Masala Chai)
Indian Masala Tea (Masala Chai) is black tea with spices, featuring a bold, warming and spicy profile. It is a carefully selected option for everyday brewing, whether you prefer your drink plain or want to experiment with different strengths and ways of serving it. The final result is affected by the amount used, the water temperature and the steeping time. For this reason, it is best to try it first without many added flavors, so you can get to know its character clearly.
Aroma and flavor profile
In the cup, it has a bold, warming and spicy profile. The aroma develops as soon as the hot water comes into contact with the leaves or the ingredients in the blend, and changes as steeping continues. Because it is made with natural ingredients, slight variations in color, piece size and aroma intensity may occur between batches. These natural differences are to be expected and do not change the product’s basic character.
How to prepare
Use about 1–2 teaspoons per cup, depending on your preferred strength. Add hot water and leave to steep for a few minutes before straining. If the result is stronger than you prefer, reduce the amount or steeping time. If it is too light, gradually adjust one variable at a time. This method helps you find your own consistent ratio and more easily recreate the same flavor.
Hot or iced
It can be enjoyed hot or used as a base for iced tea. For a cold preparation, first make a slightly more concentrated infusion, strain it and let it cool before adding ice. If you like, you can add a little lemon, fruit, honey or another sweetener. However, try the product plain first, so that any additions you choose later complement rather than mask its natural profile.
Pairings and serving
It can be served with milk, honey, biscuits and Indian sweets. A good accompaniment need not be complicated or particularly bold. Simple flavors leave more room for the drink’s aromas and make it easier to assess its flavor. If you want to compare different teas, use the same amount, the same water and a similar brewing time. This way, the differences you notice will more likely come from the product itself.
Practical tips
Use fresh water and a clean infuser or teapot. Leave enough room for the leaves and other ingredients so the water can circulate around them. An overly full, small infuser can prevent even steeping. If you often prepare the same product, a small kitchen scale can help you keep the amount consistent. You can then adjust only the time or temperature and more easily find the preparation that suits your taste.
Form and natural appearance
Depending on the blend, the package may contain tea leaves, herbs, flowers, fruit or spices of different sizes and weights. It is normal for smaller pieces to settle at the bottom during transport. For blends with many ingredients, gently mix before measuring out an amount for your cup, so the portion is more representative of the blend as a whole. Slight differences in color and appearance between batches are normal.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry and dark place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, steam and sources of heat. Seal the package tightly after each use and use a clean, dry spoon. Dried leaves and botanical ingredients can absorb odors, so avoid storing an open package next to coffee, very strong spices or scented products. Proper storage helps preserve the flavor, texture and aroma.
