Onion flakes are dried, calibrated onion in thin, asymmetrical flakes, ready for immediate use in soups, broths, sauces, and marinades. They offer the sweet, caramelized flavor of onion without peeling, chopping, or tears, making them a practical and aromatic ingredient for any kitchen.

The ingredient we use

High-quality dried onion, cut into thin, asymmetrical flakes of 2–4 mm. No additives, colorings, or artificial flavorings. The color ranges from pale beige to yellowish-brown, characteristic of natural drying. The flakes are light, brittle, and dissolve easily in water.

Botanical identity

Onion (Allium cepa, fam. Amaryllidaceae) has been cultivated worldwide for over 5,000 years. It is a staple ingredient in Mediterranean, Indian, and Eastern cuisine. In ancient Egypt (3,500 BC), it was a basic food for pyramid workers, along with garlic and radishes.

Aroma, color, and taste

  • Color: beige to yellowish-brown.

  • Aroma: sweet, caramelized — completely different from fresh onion.

  • Taste: sweet, mild, without pungency. The flakes melt easily in water, leaving a vibrant onion flavor in soups, stews, and sauces.

How to use

  • Add directly to soups and broths in the first minutes of cooking.

  • Add to meat and poultry marinades for a sweet, caramelized flavor.

  • Ideal for sauces for pasta, burgers, and comfort food.

  • For the perfect aromatic pairing, also see Garlic Powder.

Combinations

  • With garlic & thyme for a classic Greek base.

  • With paprika & coriander for Mediterranean compositions.

  • With cumin & turmeric for Indian dishes.

  • With black pepper & bay leaf for aromatic broths.

Natural appearance

Thin, asymmetrical flakes in beige-yellowish-brown shades, with a natural glossy texture. Instantly recognizable as authentic dried vegetable.
