Dried dill
Dried dill is one of the most beloved herbs in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Lightly cut dried dill fronds — ready to be sprinkled directly onto fish, salads, tzatziki, and various sauces. It retains the characteristic comforting aroma and the slightly sweet, floral flavor of the fresh herb in a concentrated form.
The herb we use
We use high-quality dried dill fronds, processed into light pieces, raw, with no additives or colorings. The color of the fronds ranges from light yellow-green to brownish-beige. The texture is slightly glossy and easily recognizable.
Botanical identity
Dill (Anethum graveolens, family Apiaceae) is an annual or biennial plant cultivated throughout the Mediterranean. It has been used as an herb since antiquity — the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans used it in both cooking and medicine. In Greece, it is an essential ingredient in tzatziki, garlic soup (skordalimnosoupa), and fish with leafy greens.
Aroma, color, and taste
Light yellow-green to brownish-beige fronds with a soothing, glossy texture. The aroma is comforting, slightly sweet with citrus notes and a hint of anise. The taste is slightly sweet, grassy, and comforting — it elevates fish, dairy, and vegetables with a unique aromatic note that is not easily replaced.
How to use it
Sprinkle directly onto steamed and grilled fish for a vibrant finishing aroma. Excellent in tzatziki and garlic soup. Mix into salads with cucumber and Katiki cheese for a characteristic Greek flavor. Add to baked potatoes and vegetables for a comforting note. See also Dried Celery for another aromatic herb for the same uses.
Combinations
With yogurt and milk for the classic Greek garlic soup. With olive oil and lemon for a simple salad dressing. With capers and garlic for a fish sauce base. With rosemary and parsley for Mediterranean compositions. With butter and parmesan for a pasta sauce.
